Creativity - these days, it’s often relegated to the back burner, if it gets on the stove at all. Everything else so often feels more important. Reiner’s trial. Sudden death syndrome. Accelerating heart damage. Targetted individuals. The Great Cull. The transhumanist agenda. Synthetic biology. The end of life on earth. Everything feels urgent.

What about art? Comedy? Poetry? Theatre? Love songs?

Time for the Creativity Cafe. An hour a week. Saturday at 3 EST.

THE CHOICE IS YOURS

Plus I will be taking part. Creativity has been huge most of my life - though less at different times. Ideas. Thinking, Research. Teaching. Writing idea pieces. These past several years what’s going on in the world has been my focus.

But these past months, here and there I’ve felt a bit of a nudge toward creative things. Then about 2 weeks ago, I heard a piece from long ago loud in my head:

Yes, I’d like other people to be part of it, to help me with my spark - but I also had to do my share. So here it is, the Creativity Cafe. For all of us.

THOUGHTS OF WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING ABOUT CREATIVITY

There was a time when “everybody” - meaning everybody I knew - was going to movies, buying records, readings novels, going to plays. There was a guitar in just about every home. When I went into someone’s home, there would be a bookcase, and I would recognize a lot of the books. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest comes to mind. But there were also so many others. Slaughterhouse 5 just came to mind. People talked about the books and movies, including comedies.

And now? When will the world crash? So many further disaster stories come to mind.

As for creativity …. I started putting it more to the side about 2012, and even my creative pieces became “political” - meaning related to social issues. That’s nothing new, actually. I think of Uncle Tom’s Cabin - for years the second most widely sold book worldwide, second only to the Bible. Harriet Beecher Stowe’s powerful anti-slavery novel. I remember being swept away by it when I came upon it, on my parents’ bookshelf, when I was about 13.

Still, in so many lives, creativity has taken a back seat. There’s always yet another video to watch on the latest variant, the latest political outrage.

Now …. PAUSE.
